Over 1,000 dentists, students, and staff converge on ADA Advocacy Conference.

The ADA Advocacy Conference kicked off in Washington, DC, on March 26 in conjunction with the American Student Dental Association’s lobbying event. Over 1,000 dentists, dental students, and association staff are attending the Advocacy Conference (previously called the ADA Washington Leadership Conference), 19 of whom are from Indiana. The March 26-28 event is expected to be the largest and most successful advocacy event for any health care association in 2017, organizers said.

The event opened with a How to Meet with Your Member of Congress session during which attendees role-played meeting with their legislators and advocating for dental issues.

After getting tips and advice from representatives of American Dental Political Action Committee (ADPCA) and the American Student Dental Association (ASDA) Council on Advocacy, attendees will visit Capitol Hill where they will meet with their legislators and discuss three current issues affecting the dental profession:

“Learning how to advocate for the profession is critical for every dentist,” says Ed Popcheff, IDA Director of Government Affairs. “Most dentists don’t realize that they can actually play an important role in affecting health care policy and the future of their dental practices. The Advocacy Conference teaches steps that can be used not only on a national level, but when advocating on the state level also. ”

IDA Dental Day: Reserve the Date

IDA members are encouraged to clear their calendars on Monday, February 12, 2018 for IDA Dental Day at the Capitol. While national advocacy is critical, many regulatory changes to the dental profession happen at the state level. During Dental Day at the Capitol, IDA members are introduced to the upcoming changes as well as the steps they can take to shape beneficial change.

For more information on Dental Day, the IDA Contact Dentist Program, or advocating for the dental profession, contact Ed Popcheff, IDA Director of Government Affairs, at 800-562-5646 or Ed@INDental.org.
