Legislation Limits Opioid Prescribing

In response to the state’s current opioid crisis, the Indiana General Assembly enacted SB 226 that limits prescriptions for opioid medications to a 7 day supply for new patients. The measure has been signed by Governor Holcomb and became effective upon passage. Language in the law allows for dentists to exceed the limit if professional judgement dictates. The Medical Board of Indiana will be developing administrative rules to further implement  the new prescribing guidelines, if you have any questions please contact Mr Ed Popcheff, IDA Director of Governmental Affairs.
