Effective January 1, 2018, Anthem may hold subscribers responsible for charges if they use the ER for non-emergency care
In a letter to policyholders, Anthem stated, “As part of Anthem’s ongoing efforts to slow the effects of rising health care, effective January 1, 2018, non-emergency services may not be covered when treated in an emergency room (ER) if more appropriate settings are available.
“Helping your employees understand when it does and doesn’t make sense to use the ER can help them save time and money. That’s why Anthem has lots of tools and resources to help them choose the right place for care. Our Find a Doctor, Find Urgent Care and Estimate Your Costs tools can all help members find the right care close to home or work.”
