Dental Public Health Committee

Charged with improving the oral health of Hoosiers

The Indiana Dental Association (IDA) Dental Public Health Committee is dedicated to improving the oral health of Hoosiers. This committee leads efforts to address critical oral health issues statewide, focusing on Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs), charitable dental care initiatives, Medicaid policies, community water fluoridation, infant oral health, special needs services and access to care. Through collaboration and innovation, the committee strives to enhance public health strategies and encourage greater participation by dental professionals in serving underserved populations.

 

Member responsibilities and expectations:

As outlined in the IDA Bylaws, the Dental Public Health Committee is responsible for studying and addressing public health issues related to dentistry and making recommendations to the Board of Trustees. Members are tasked with identifying and proposing solutions for challenges impacting oral health within Indiana.

Chair: Dr. Rob Weaver
Meetings per year: 6 meetings per year (January, February, March, June, August, and October), typically held in the evening from 7-8:30 p.m. EST, totaling 9 hours annually. Meetings are held online.
Time per meeting: 90 minutes to 2 hours per meeting
Volunteer Time Commitment: Committee members can expect the following time commitments:
In-Person Engagement: Members are encouraged to attend one in-person engagement each year, such as community events or committee-related activities.
Additional Involvement: Members may occasionally be asked to contribute extra time for specific projects or initiatives, depending on individual interest and availability. The committee values the unique expertise and input of each member in achieving its mission to improve oral health statewide.
